P0410 secondary air injection system

p04secondary air injection system

Secondary Air Injection System Malfunction. This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is a generic powertrain code, which means that it applies to OBD-II equipped vehicles. This means there’s an issue in the vehicle’s emission system , and can be caused by. This video is a quick repair tutorial on how to change the air injection pump fuse on a GMC vehicle. The Powertrain Control Module grounds the Air pump relay control circuit which energizes the Air pump.

The system also has a solenoid and Check Valve (s) to control the air flow. The air injection system (AIS) is designed to supply air to the engine exhaust as it exits the exhaust manifold. If it does not see the short term fuel trims rise, then the PCM interprets this as a malfunction in the AIR system and a code will be recorded.

The car died after the night panel button was pushed twice. It turns over but no fire. When I bought the car it had a check engine light on. And still does not come on. The secondary air injection system does not detect the presence of air in the exhaust when introduced by the secondary air injection system.

Historically it was called the AIR system , which was an acronym for Air Injection Reaction. If we dissect this historical name we can learn some about what its intended function is. During the first few days of ownership the amber engine check lamp in the dash illuminated and stayed on. The powertrain control module (PCM) activates the AIR system by suppling a ground to the AIR pump relay and AIR solenoid relay simultaneously.

The PCM has detected a problem in the secondary air injection system. Using a scan tool, activate the AIR pump through the scanner listening for the pump to run and listening for any odd noises from the pump. If the pump will not run, remove the air hoses from the pump and check for water in the pump. Took it back to the mechanic.

They tested the air pump and fuse an. I know nothing about this system , but have been told it may be sticking fromfreezing, or the fuse may be blown. There is an electric blower under the truck, tucked inside the frame rail about under the drivers seat. The AIR pump puts air to the exhaust to lower emissions.

Either the pump is bad or the check valve. An AIR pump is used on this vehicle to lower tail pipe emissions on start-up. The PCM supplies a ground to the AIR pump relay, which energizes the AIR pump. The PCM monitors the HO2S voltages to diagnose the AIR system.

Since no internal combustion engine is 1 efficient, there will always be some unburned fuel in the exhaust. This increases hydrocarbon emissions. As a result, the air injection system was created. Replaced Osensors a year ago.

Ensure the AIR outlet hose is removed from the AIR shut-off valve. Basically, fresh air is pumped to the exhaust system during a cold start to feed both the oxygen and exhaust gases, and ensuring more complete burn and less harmful emissions from the vehicle. I did fix the secondary air injection system , done. This pump runs for only the first minutes of engine operation or until the engine reaches operating temperature, and during certain other times in normal driving.

It is located beneath the plenum on the right side of the engine, looking down over the right rear fender. Any advise would be greatly appreciated Thanks. Supposedly this fan is supposed to blow fresh air into the exhaust on a cold startup to reduce emissions and fool the sensors into thinking. Found the elbow at the check valve for the air injection rotted.

My understanding is the system simply. This code is for the secondary air injection system. A common failure is that the pump has sucked up water and needs to be replaced. Probably also blew a fuse. Possible Solutions: There is a technical service bulletin (TSB) regarding this code for a number of GM models.

The control module provides ground for the pump relay. The TSB can be found on this ACDelco site.

Battery voltage is then applied to the pump. The secondary air pump has nothing to do with how the car performs and it made me mad that I had to spend a chunk of change on this just so I could get my inspection sticker. If the Osensor doesn’t sense the correct air fuel ratio after the air pump comes on.

Here is what my old part looks like — same as the throttle body on the intake manifold. Went to work very early this AM, started the KJ and had a check engine light. The electrical connection is monitored for short to earth, short to power supply and open circuit.

It seems like the entire XT emission control system has failed in less that two months. Cause Water may have collected in the AIR pump or the vent solenoid and frozen or corroded the pump. Last week I had that changed to a brand new one. The light came on after miles.

I replaced both valves on each side of engine, had check engine light cleare and am now waiting and hopping that was the issue.
