Upper lower ball joints

Install the ball joint stud on the steering knuckle arm and tighten the castle nut using a wrench or ratchet and socket. Insert a new cotter pin and bend the ends using the nose pliers. Lift the car at the control arm close to the lower ball joint , about two inches off the ground.


Place a long bar, usually a pry par, under the tire.

Now with the nuts loosened full turn, jack back up under the frame untill the lower control arms are free from the jack stands. Now the spring pressure will be back on the control arms. I changed out all suspension coils, shocks, upper and lower control arm, upper and lower ball joints , sway bar links,.


Slip the ball joint under the the lower control arm, line up the holes and replace the nuts, bolts and washers. Torque these to ft-lbs. Remember that the outside bolts are heads up on the front. Using the correct tools remove and replace the ball joints and this can be done on the truck. Leave the nuts on a few threads to catch the knuckle when the ball joints break free of the axle.


A pickle fork can be used to separate the ball joints from the axle housing. Includes: ball joint with rubber boot.
