Tire wear indicator

Most tires have at least six or more tread wear bars. Some small tires (12-inch rim or smaller) only require a minimum of three tread wear indicators. Newer tires have a convenience that older tires lacked. They have tread wear indicator bars built into the tires themselves. These bars, invisible or barely visible when the tires are new, gradually begin to appear as the tread wears down.


They appear as flat rubber bars running perpendicular to the direction of the tread itself. Tires with leaks should be patched by a professional. If the leak persists, get a new tire. Check for deeply scuffed or worn areas, bulges or bubbles, small slits, or holes.
